About Glenkindie Estate

The Estate has a fascinating history. It was formerly home to Glenkindie Castle, which was demolished in 1644 by a clan gathering of all the Covenanter lairds.

Glenkindie House itself still stands, and is now the private home of the owner. It has been described as ‘a snug chateau … a confection of towers of different dates’. The east wing dates back to 1595, the west wing to 1787 whilst the north wing (the present main house) was added in 1900 by Sydney Mitchell.

Today it is a working environmentally and agriculturally focused estate, which you are free to explore during your stay (with the exception of the immediate area around Glenkindie House itself).
